The Scalp Revival comes to One of A Kind Show Toronto

The Place:
One of a Kind Craft show in Toronto
Our ‘Earth to Body Natural Skin Care’ corner booth number 237.
Year 2009.  Early morning. Quiet.

Enters a stylish woman, in her thirties, with long auburn hair.   Her name is Sylvia.

“Hi there.”  She chimes, highly exasperated.  “You will not believe my scalp.   Look!”  She parts her long hair.  She sighs.  I gasp.  Courageously, she exposes the scabs behind her ears and on the nape of her neck.   “My scalp is so itchy.  I have red welts from scratching.  I have tried every shampoo from here to Rome, been to specialists and nothing is helping. This has been going on for years.  Do you have anything for this?  Someone told me how natural and good your products are?   I don’t know what else to try.

I have heard similar laments over the years, but I have never seen a scalp in such dire straits.   I learn that she was warned to use the prescribed cortisone creams sparingly and only when desperate.

“Which is all the time,” she declares.

“Health food stores are now carrying SLS and Paraben free shampoos.”  I explain.   “That is an option.  It just may be that too many chemicals in certain commercial products are irritating you. ‘ Earth to Body’ does not make liquid soaps, but we do have amazing 100% natural shampoo/soap bars.   They are much like what was used over 50 years ago.  Successfully, for centuries by the way.”

I emphasize that changing her total routine might help. The often-recommended tar based shampoos and medicated creams may ease the discomfort for a while, they do not really get to the root of the problem.  I suggest putting aside her regular products and trying totally all natural good nutrition, giving the hair and the skin the change to thrive. I recommend our shampoo/soap ESP as the emu oil and amla can be very soothing on her scalp problem.  I then describe the importance of the apple cider vinegar rinse to restore her skin to a healthy alkaline state.  That means not daily, only once or twice a week.  If she wants conditioner, it too must be natural.  I suggest either our pure argan oil or one of our butters (shargan or sheamu).

newspaper_02BI explain the importance of a good salt mineral soak.

“Soak in our dead sea salt spa, making sure your scalp is submerged.  Might be a little tricky but definitely doable.  If your hair is a little greasy after, wear it in a wet ponytail look for a few hours or a day!  It will wash clean, not to worry. Or choose the Himalayan Rock Crystals without the oil.”

She grinned.  “No problem.  If it helps, I’ll try anything.

We dabbed a little of the X Cream around her ears and her on her neck.  She loved the cool feeling. “This cream is great for relaxing dry, itchy skin and since it contains patchouli and black spruce it has a lovely ‘woodsy’ scent.  Made totally from scratch, we have control what goes into it.  And what does not.”

Off she trotted with her bundle of hope.

Two days later, she reentered the booth. “Unbelievable”, she beamed. “ I felt the difference after only one bath.  It has been 2 days now and look.”  Expertly, she whipped her long hair into an upswing, exposing her nape and ears.

“It’s like night and day,” I agreed.  “I have been thinking about you since you left.  Thank you, Sylvia, so much, for coming back to show us.”

Eliminating certain commercial products and substituting a good healthy alternative can do wonders.  It is not that the shampoo bar claims a cure. There are no specific cures.  One’s DNA, diet, environment all play a role.  The key is to read the label.  If you do not understand something, question it.  If you see Sodium Laurel Sulphate, or Parabens, or Propylene Glycol make another choice.  Our 100% natural bars make a beautiful lather, and can be used all over the body.

Ask Sylvia.  She is a believer.
