Toronto date ideas for each day of the week
Saturday night gets all the attention, but in actual fact every night of the week in TO is hopping – you just need to know where to look. Everyone who’s been on a date can sympathize with the fact that it’s difficult to pick a spot, especially mid-week. You want something that’s impressive, something that’s a little different, and nice enough that your date won’t be ashamed to be seen there (that’s a pretty low bar).
Fortunately, regardless whether you make hump-day plans or weekend arrangements, there’s always something good happening in Toronto. Here’s your handy guide to some good date-night spots for each day of the week; print it out, stick it on your fridge and always have a spot in your back pocket for date night.
Sunday – Bar Hop Sunday Sessions
Bar Hop is usually hopping (pun intended), but it comes even more alive on Sunday evenings, when they offer their Sunday Sessions special – that’s a $5 special on certain draughts, accompanied by a curated playlist of vinyl gems.
Monday – SARA Journey Prix Fixe
SARA is the newer restaurant from the Food Dudes, food truck wizards and the brains behind the acclaimed RASA restaurant on Robert St. And on Monday, they offer Journey Mondays, a reduced price, prix fixe version of their menu. The food here is as delicious as it is beautiful, but make sure to make a reservation at SARA Restaurant for Monday, since seats can go fast.
Tuesday – Cineplex’s Cheap Tuesday
So far, the choices here have revolved around discount specials, but that’s by design; early weekday dates shouldn’t cost a fortune. Plan a movie night on Tuesday at any Cineplex and enjoy a $7.99 movie ticket.
Wednesday – Trivia at Sneaky Dee’s
Another Round Trivia, hosted by Toronto mainstay Terrance Balazo, comes to this College St. institution every Wednesday. Come early, though, because the upstairs room at Sneaks gets very crowded.
Thursday – First Thursdays at the AGO
On the first Thursday of every month, the Art Gallery of Ontario plays host to a late-night art event that features DJs, tours, art making centres and catered food. It’s a fun, hip way of engaging with contemporary art, and makes for a captivating date night.
Friday – ROM Friday Night Live
The ROM equivalent of First Thursdays is “Friday Night Live”, where the museum lays out a dance floor amid the dinosaur skeletons and offers live entertainment. It’s as fun as it sounds.
Saturday – Comedy Carousel at the Comedy Bar
There is no shortage of comedy nights in the GTA (honourable mention goes to “Date Night Comedy” at the Burdock on certain Friday nights) but Comedy Carousel is a reliable source of Saturday night laughs. Hosted at the Comedy Bar on Bloor, when the show is finished, you’re right around a number of cocktail bars, in case you want to keep the date going.
Don’t keep saying, “Let’s do something this weekend” because you can’t think of anything to do during the week. And when the weekend rolls around, don’t just hit up the club. These seven date spots have you covered 7 days a week, so you never have to worry about choosing somewhere subpar.
