Les Canadiennes – Olympic Podium Medalists
As the opening of the CWHL season approaches, I would like to introduce you to the players on the team who have stood on the podium at the Olympic Games. The Canadian Women’s national hockey team have taken home four consecutive gold medals in women’s Olympic hockey – and players from Montreal’s team have been a very significant part of it.
Olympic medalist players on this season’s roster:
Caroline Ouellette: Gold (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014). She was captain of the team in Sochi 2014.
Charline Labonté: Gold (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014).
Marie-Philip Poulin: Gold (2010, 2014). In 2014 she scored the tying goal late in the game and scored the overtime winner. In 2010 she scored the only two goals in the gold-medal game.
Lauriane Rougeau: Gold (2014).
Julie Chu (USA): Silver (2002, 2010, 2014) Bronze (2006).
With the caliber of players on the team – as well as the aspiring players vying to make their mark, this season should be a very exciting one!
Les Canadiennes’ 2016-17 season opens up with the team playing against the Brampton Thunder on October 15th & 16th at the Brampton Memorial Arena – games start at 6:30pm. And then they will be hosting the Toronto Furies at the Etienne Desmarteu Arena here in Montreal on October 22nd at 5:30pm and on the 23rd at 1:30pm.
In November, two of their regular season games against the Boston Blades will be held at the Centre Sportif Lacroix-Dutil in Saint-Georges, QC. The games are being held there in collaboration with the Tournoi de hockey féminin de Saint-Georges, to offer hockey fans from the Beauce, Chaudière-Appalaches and Quebec City regions the opportunity to see some of the best players in women’s hockey.
Check back next week for the full season schedule and another Canadiennes spotlight!
