Entertainment as a whole has been going through a huge shift in recent years, as the online space continues to grow, particularly with the successes found in mobile platforms as a whole. Whether this be through the growth of different streaming platforms like Netflix, through music streaming platforms too like Spotify, or most recently through the huge growth found in different gaming platforms – but what is it that has allowed mobile gaming to thrive in the way it has been?

The biggest change has come from a growing audience and demographic, where gaming had found a primary audience before of younger teen males, there has since been a huge change that have found an older audience become more involved in the mobile platform. Different suggestions now show that women over the age of 34 are now the primary consumers of these games and often play for longer hours and on a more regular basis too, whilst also being more willing to spend on microtransactions and other paid features too.

The growing prominence of different genres has been just as important too, with one of the fastest areas in online casinos and online gambling. Options like Spin Casino online have brought something traditionally only available offline into the online space at a very rapid rate, as online casinos continue to become amongst the most played of all mobile genres. It continues to change with new regulation around the world and new services popping up to supply the play needs of those most invested. It continues to see an enormous amount of growth, but it isn’t all on the success of the games either, as content creation has been key here too.

Platforms like Twitch have made some big content creators household names and although the focus has largely been around esports, there are many creators now who focus on variety streaming options and other categories like Just Chatting. It has helped bring mobile gaming options to a growing audience still, with mobile being one of the biggest platforms to consume this content. Whilst things like mobile esports remain quite small, the ability to watch or even participate through these different platforms have certainly helped and will continue to be a driving force to push mobile gaming further forward still.

That isn’t to say mobile gaming hasn’t ran into trouble whilst it has been thriving though, the increasing persistence of microtransactions and premium features have frustrated many players, particularly where ads are involved, but have become part and parcel of the gaming genre itself. Future changes will make the gaming even more accessible though, with 5G just around the corner and the promise of new peripherals and new devices too. It could mean that options for mobile gaming continue to grow and continue to become much easier for those looking to be involved. It’s an exciting space for sure, and one that shows no signs of slowing down after an extremely exciting few years of growth.
