London has Harrod’s. New York has Macy’s. We have our Ogilvy’s. I remember when I was a young lad, passing by the glass windows during Christmas time. Oh to get caught up in all the moving mechanisms like the cutting of the log or the peaking out of a clock, the wonders and awe I felt. It is with no surprise that the selected charity to celebrate Ogilvy’s 150th Anniversary was the Montreal Children’s Hospital Kids Foundation.
A red carpet, little bouchées, beats upon beats upon beats on every floor, and a fashion show, naturally. Ogilvy’s is simply one of those Montréal institutions. Yes, they still have glitzy jewellery, wonderful scents and luxury designer brands. But what I will always remember is how I felt as a kid, looking forward every year to the Christmas display. And being a charity event to help kids, I’m sure I, like James Angus Ogilvy, would be equally as proud for the chosen charity to celebrate Ogilvy’s milestone.
