Los Angeles, CA,. Oct. 15, 2020 — Post Malone won 9 Billboard Music Awards Wednesday night taking home nine prizes including top artist.
Post received so much hardware that eight of his trophies were delivered in a cart by host Kelly Clarkson, who pushed them towards him in order to maintain social distancing due to COVID-19.
“I can’t touch you, so I had to wheel it out,” joked Clarkson.
The three-hour TV awards show, originally scheduled for April, was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, featured numerous live performances to empty seats.
Khalid was the year’s second-biggest winner, taking home five awards, followed by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, who won four awards each for their record-setting collab “Old Town Road (Remix).” Kanye West won four awards including both top gospel album and top Christian album for Jesus Is King. Kanye swept all three awards in the gospel field—top artist, top album and top song for “Follow God.”
This year’s show was originally scheduled for April 29 but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kelly Clarkson hosted the show for the third year in a row.
Other big winners included Billie Eilish with her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? It won top Billboard 200 album, nearly nine months after it won the Grammy for album of the year. It’s the fourth album in the past 10 years to receive both of these awards. Eilish also won won top female artist and Top New Artist.
K-pop megastars BTS won the fan-voted top social artist award for the fourth straight year. Canada’s Justin Bieber was the winner for the six years previous to the four straight BTS wins. BTS also performed on the Billboard awards show.
Canada’s Justin Bieber continued to show his music versatility winning top country song, “10,000 Hours.” a collab with Dan + Shay.
