Yorkville public art animations will be spread throughout from Thursday, September 23 to early morning on Monday, September 27

TORONTO, ON, Sept. 22, 2021 – Toronto’s Yorkville community will welcome people to explore the neighbourhood and enjoy free outdoor public art animations from Thursday, September 23 to early morning on Monday, September 27.

A temporary vehicle closure of Yorkville Avenue, between Bellair Street and Hazelton Avenue, will be in place Thursday to Sunday, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly, and on Sunday at noon until Monday at 2 a.m. for pedestrians. A free mural activation will be available for all starting Friday through the weekend.

People are encouraged to enjoy the free, community-led initiative, organized by the Greater Yorkville Residents’ Association and The Bloor-Yorkville Business Improvement Area, which will provide safe spaces for people walking or using mobility devices to explore Yorkville Avenue, and put vibrant outdoor public art installations on display for everyone to experience.

As people walk and move along Yorkville Avenue, they will have an opportunity to appreciate the annual Yorkville Murals event from September 24 to 26. Yorkville Murals, which is a program partner of ArtworxTO: Toronto’s Year of Public Art 2021–2022, is an annual, three-day cultural event that helps bring animation to the street, neighbourhood and city.

“Thank you to the Yorkville community for coming together to plan an exciting weekend of programming that encourages people to get outside, enjoy the neighbourhood and safely take in some wonderful works of public art. I encourage people and families to experience this fun and safe weekend programming,” said Mayor John Tory.

Programming for Yorkville Murals will be spread throughout the Yorkville neighbourhood. Pedestrianizing part of Yorkville Avenue will allow participants to experience five moveable murals, nighttime projections on 92 Yorkville Avenue, and a pop-up gallery.

The Yorkville Murals event has been designed as a safe, self-guided experience in the heart of Toronto. Yorkville Murals staff and volunteers will monitor high-traffic areas of the event, in accordance with provincial health requirements.
