First Snow? Winter Weather Warning issued for Toronto this Weekend

TORONTO, November 7, 2025 — Yes, you read that right! Toronto is about to see its first snowfall of the season, even though it is technically still fall. It is expected to happen this Sunday, November 9, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Drivers are advised to be cautious on the roads, especially those who have yet to switch over to winter tires.

A low pressure system could bring as much as 10 cm to the GTA on Sunday although areas closer to the lake may only receive a light dusting. I have been receiving texts for the last two weeks to get my tires changed over and of course, dismissed this notion, thinking these days, early November is a little soon to expect the fluffy white stuff.

Here is the full Special Weather Statement issued by Environment Canada, our nation’s most trusted weather source.

Special Weather Statement in effect for:

  • City of Toronto

Accumulating snow likely on Sunday.

What: Snowfall amounts of 2 to 10 cm, but exact amounts are uncertain.

When: Beginning Sunday morning and continuing through Sunday evening.

Additional information: A low pressure system could bring significant snowfall to parts of southern Ontario on Sunday. Confidence remains low with respect to the strength and track of this weather system, and as such the areas affected and snowfall amounts may change.

Motorists should expect difficult winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. Installation of winter tires should be considered prior to Sunday.
