Jason Skrobar has spent over 25 years working in the food industry with the last 15 years working as a food stylist and recipe developer. His food styling work has been featured on TV shows such as The Social, The Marilyn Denis Show, The Good Stuff with Mary Berg, Etalk as well as Your Morning where he is also an on-air food expert.

Canadians eat more than 3.6 million sandwiches per year

According to Skrobar in the Introduction, “Canadians alone eat more than 3.6 billion sandwiches each year; 11.5 billion are consumed annually in the UK; and Americans…eat 45 billion of them every 365 days!” With so many sandwiches eaten each day, it’s easy to see why people get bored of the same old, same old. Skrobar thinks outside of the box and inspires readers to try new sandwiches that are sure to become favourites.

What makes a good sandwich?

A good sandwich is the sum of all its parts—Bread, Fillings, Sauce, Add-Ons and Garnishes and each topic is covered in this book. Skrobar inspires readers to experiment with several types of breads such as Brioche, Focaccia, Baguettes, Pumpernickel, Rye, Sourdough Bread, Pretzel Buns and more. He also includes suggestions for add-ons and fillings along with recipes for delicious sauces such as Blue Cheese Sauce, Roasted Garlic Sauce and Red Onion & Bacon Jam. 

Must-try recipes

A few must-try recipes include Grilled Cheese 3 Ways, Chicken Cutlet Club Sandwich, Muffuletta, Breakfast Frittata Sandwich, Gill’s Sweet & Savory One, The Big Dipper, The Pretty One, Shrimp Po’Boy and Lobster Roll. Burgers are also considered sandwiches in Skrobar’s book with mouthwatering recipes like Messy, Eh?
