Here are Toronto’s weekend event & road closures for Aug. 12 -13

Toronto weekend road closures and transit interruptions are due to Wheels on the Danforth, ActiveTO, construction and more

TORONTO, Aug. 12, 2022 – Today, the City of Toronto announced a number of road closures and restrictions that will be in effect this weekend to support events like Wheels on the Danforth, ActiveTO and critical infrastructure work. Addtiionally, TTC and Metrolinx service changes are in effect due to stadium events and LRT work

Event related road closures

Danforth Avenue, from Warden Avenue to Byng Avenue, and Danforth Road, from Landry Avenue to Danforth Avenue, will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, to accommodate the Wheels on the Danforth street festival.

Presented by the Crossroads of the Danforth BIA located in Toronto’s East End, Wheels on the Danforth is one of Toronto’s most anticipated community street festivals. The event features hundreds of unique cars pack the streets for awards and cash prizes. All-day, there is on-stage LIVE entertainment , from DJs and bands to performers.

Restaurant patios, great food, vendors market place, artisans, and lots more.

Market Street continues to be closed from Front Street East to The Esplanade for I Heart Market Street activities.

Construction closures

Queen’s Park, between Bloor Street West and Queen’s Park Crescent, is currently reduced to two southbound lanes and one northbound lane to accommodate TTC Easier Access construction work at Museum Station.

Travel lanes on The Queensway between Parkside Drive and Roncesvalles Avenue are reduced to a minimum of one shared travel lane in each direction for King-Queen-Queensway-Roncesvalles TTC track replacement and road reconstruction work. King Street West is also closed at this intersection, and eastbound left turns are not permitted from The Queensway to Glendale Avenue.

The Carlton Street and Church Street intersection is currently closed for streetcar track replacement.

Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard East between Parliament Street and Lower Sherbourne Street is reduced to a single lane until 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, to facilitate gasmain installation work by Enbridge.

The northbound Don Valley Parkway on-ramp from Lake Shore Boulevard West will be closed overnight, from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m., on Sunday, August 14 and Monday, August 15, to facilitate road inspection work.

ActiveTO

Bayview Avenue, from Rosedale Valley Road to Lawren Harris Square, and River Street, between Bayview Avenue and Spruce Street, will be closed to vehicle traffic for ActiveTO from 7 a.m. on August 13 until 7 p.m. on August 14.

Roads within High Park will be closed to vehicle traffic during the weekend. More information about access to High Park is available on the City’s High Park webpage.

Toronto’s more than 1,500 parks and 11,000 hectares of ravine spaces are also open for fresh air and exercise daily, including The Meadoway from Brimley Road to Scarborough Golf Club Road. TTC closures

On August 13 and 14, there will be no subway service on the portion of Line 1 between Lawrence and St. Clair stations due to Metrolinx construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Also, this weekend, customers travelling on the University side of Line 1 may experience longer than normal travel and wait times as trains will alternate use of the southbound track between Wilson and Lawrence West stations to accommodate maintenance work on the northbound track.

On August 14, service on the portion of Line 2 between St. George and Broadview stations will begin by noon to accommodate beam replacement on Prince Edward (Bloor) Viaduct.

Metrolinx closures

On August 13, Lake Shore East and West GO train schedules will be adjusted to accommodate the Toronto FC game. More information is available on the GO Transit website .
