Holiday GO Transit service adjustments, FREE GO and UP Express on NYE

On Wednesday, December 24, Metrolinx is adding extra service on the Milton and Richmond Hill lines from Union Station to help customers get home earlier:  

  • Milton Line: Two additional trips have been added and will depart Union Station at 1:40 p.m. and 2:40 p.m.
  • Richmond Hill: An additional trip has been added and will depart Union Station at 2:45 p.m.

Starting on Sunday, December 21, GO train service across the network will be adjusted to match seasonal demand, regular service returns January 5, 2026.

Also, on Saturday, December 20, some GO bus routes will also see adjustments to match reduced demand due to the holiday season, regular service returns January 3, 2026. See more details of the holiday GO Transit service changes here

GO Bus Schedule Changes in 2026

Beginning January 3, 2026, Metrolinx will be adjusting GO bus schedules on routes 16, 17, 21, 29, 30, 31, 33, 40, 47, 56, and 71 to better reflect actual travel times. There will be more weekday trips on routes 29 and 31 due to increased demand. See here for details.

Also, starting January 3, 2026, we’ll be introducing new GO bus route options 40M and 40H that extend to serve Humber Polytechnic North Campus and connect to the new Finch West LRT. Routes 54 and 66 will be removed.

Free GO Transit and UP Express service on New Year’s Eve

UP Express reinroduces 30-minute trips

Metrolinx will once again be offering complimentary service on GO Transit and UP Express on New Year’s Eve in partnership with Forty Creek Whisky to help you ring in 2026 safely. 

Starting 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, customers can ride on any GO train or GO bus for free until 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day. UP Express will also be free to all customers on New Year’s Eve from 7 p.m. until end of service. 

Riders are encouraged to continue tapping on and off with their PRESTO card, but they will not be charged.

Additional GO train service will run throughout the night to get customers home safely. Customers are encouraged to check schedules ahead of time and sign up for On the GO Alerts to receive real time updates about trip schedules, delays or disruptions.
