TORONTO, December 28, 2025 — Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued Yellow alerts for high winds, rainfall, and freezing rain headed to the GTA Sunday into Monday.
Freezing rain leading to ice accretion or build-up of 2 to 5 mm on some surfaces is expected to continue Sunday afternoon into the evening before changing over to 20-40 mm of rain as the temps climb. Although areas along the Lake Ontario shoreline will see little to no ice buildup, north of the city, icy roads and walkways are likely. ECCC warns that Icy surfaces could be challenging to detect.
Meanwhile, the heavy rainfall following the freezing rain could cause flooding due to the frozen ground beneath, and all of this will be accompanied by high winds of 70 – 80 km per hour.
On Monday, there will be a 40 percent chance of rain showers early in the morning then 40 percent chance of flurries in the morning. Flurries beginning in the morning will be followed by local blowing snow in the afternoon.
For those hitting the roads on Monday to points north, expect blowing snow, drifting and an addtional 2 to 4 cm at night with a low of -8 c.
Power Outages Possible
Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Some property damage is possible. Secure loose objects.
