Spotlight at The Second City Returns this Spring with Toronto’s Best Comedy Troupes

Spotlight at The Second City is back this spring with their monthly showcase on April 14 and 15, 2026 at The Second City’s Theatre ‘73 in Toronto with Amish Famous by Spencer Glassman, and sketch comedy trio Best By Far.

Hosted and produced by Taylor Hreljac and Gabe Meacher, this series presents Toronto’s best troupes in their best light. Spotlight at The Second City features two premier sketch comedy acts each month, performing 30-minute shows in a two-night run, including brand-new shows, exciting experiments, and Best-Ofs.

After seeing both shows at Comedy Bar, we knew they deserved a bigger stage. Spencer Glassman and Best By Far are some of the most talented and inventive performers working in the city and the country right now, creating work that feels completely unlike anything else. We cannot wait to see them take over Theatre ‘73 with the full power of a Second City production behind them,” said Taylor Hreljac.

Amish Famous is a solo sketch musical directed by Zoe Marin (Small Friend Tall Friend) and written by and starring Spencer Glassman. Amish Famous is about an Amish girl who defies her Bishop father by leaving home to audition for American Idol – told from the perspective of the detective investigating her subsequent disappearance. Spencer Glassman is a bonafide theatre girl with comedy credits including JFL, TOsketchfest, Montreal Sketch Fest, Yuk Yuk’s, and the Fun and Dumb Improv Festival at the Brooklyn Comedy Collective. Her one-woman musical sketch show, Child Star, was featured in Brooklyn Magazine and was performed in both Canada and New York City.

Hot, Fast, Hilarious! Best By Far delivers a unique, stripped down version of sketch comedy letting go of the typical “lights up, lights down” as their scenes endlessly chain with an informally cool sensibility. With content ranging from quick one liners, impressions, and painfully drawn out cringe, Brody Wilkinson-Martin, Rachel Sellan, and Austin Anonsen keep the audience craving more with their high energy sets.

Taylor Hreljac and Gabe Meacher are collaborators and producers who co-run Toronto Sketch Comedy, a grassroots hub for live sketch in the city. They are a steady presence in Toronto’s comedy scene creating space for emerging performers and championing original work. You may have seen their writing and performances at Just For Laughs, Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival and NYC Sketchfest. Their work blends character driven comedy with a deep commitment to building community and keeping live comedy thriving.
