How to clean your house – Did you know that the average person over 15 years old spends over an hour cleaning everyday?

According to a 2015 report by The Bureau of Labor Statistics the average person spends 13 minutes per day cleaning up the kitchen after meals, 17 minutes per day on laundry, 29 minutes per day on interior cleaning tasks, and 7 minutes per day maintaining the lawn, garden, and houseplants.

If you want to minimise your cleaning then check out our 6 tips on how you can clean your house from top to bottom faster.

How to clean your house

  1. Break up your house into sections

Split up your house into different rooms and focus your cleaning efforts on one room a day. For instance, you could clean your bathroom every week on a Wednesday. Instead of cleaning your house all at once, breaking it up into rooms or sections can make it feel less like a chore.

  1. Create a cleaning schedule

Create a cleaning schedule that works for you. If you know that during the week you are too tired to commit to cleaning your house, then choose to focus your cleaning schedule on the weekend.

If you live with other people, such as family and friends you can also allocate different cleaning tasks to different people and rotate the tasks weekly. For example, you could clean the communal areas (don’t forget to get the dirt in hard to reach areas, for instance use a mop for getting the crumbs down the back of the sofa), whilst one of your friends washes up after dinner, and another friend cleans the bathroom.

  1. Clean up after yourself

An obvious way to speed up cleaning is by ensuring you clean up after yourself when you have made a mess. For example, when you make dinner don’t just leave the dishes for a few days as this will make it harder to clean them and thus take longer.

  1. Don’t forget the little details on how to clean your house

It can be easy to overlook certain areas that need cleaning, such as dusting your light shades and cleaning your windows. So remember to write down these easy-to-forget cleaning areas on your cleaning schedule. The little details can be done less often, so don’t feel like you have to clean them every week, instead schedule it in monthly.

  1. Create cleaning habits

The more you stick to your schedule, the more you will create cleaning habits. Cleaning habits, including cleaning up after yourself, can seemingly make cleaning easier and faster. Although putting in more effort at the beginning will feel like a chore, eventually you will do things without even realising.

  1. Be prepared

Nothing makes cleaning take longer than not having the right cleaning products and supplies in. Make sure before you start cleaning that you have the right products and tools necessary to clean your house.

Check the market to see if there are any products that can help speed up the process. For example oven cleaner can have your oven looking shiny in half the time, compared to if you were just scrubbing it with warm water and soap. But make sure you read the ingredients and instructions on your cleaning products before using them.
