TORONTO, January 29, 2026 — Tonight would be a good night to watch telly and… avoid the chill. With temperatures plummeting on Thursday night to as low as -24°c/-35° c with the windchill, a yellow alert for extreme cold has been issued for Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton and surrounding areas.
Environment and Climate Change Canada warns of frigid temperatures expected tonight into early Friday morning, with wind chills of minus 30 to minus 35. When:
Keep your skin covered if you must step outside. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Additionally, keep your pets inside. If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Watch for colour changes on fingers and toes, pain, numbness, a tingling sensation, or swelling. If present, move indoors and begin warming.
