Escape The City – 3 Must-Do Day Trips Close To Toronto

img

Situated in southern Ontario, Toronto is a city that has become well known for its rich culture, stunning surrounding landscapes, and friendly people. In fact, it has become so well revered that many believe Toronto is one of the top 10 cities in the world to live in. Canada is proud of its crown jewel, but for those living in the city, a quick escape may sometimes be necessary. Fortunately, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas, and the following day trips might be exactly what you need.

Niagara Falls

Perhaps the most famous natural attraction in all of Canada, Niagara Falls are simply a must-see for anyone who lives in the city of Toronto, as well as any international travellers in the area. There are many ways to experience the glory of the massive falls, and whether by cruise boat, microlight or from a viewing platform they are equally as impressive. The drive from the centre of Toronto to the base of the falls takes about an hour and a half of driving, totalling around 80 miles. This makes it the perfect outing for family or friends looking to spend some time outside of the city.

If you do opt to drive to the falls, be sure to give your car a quick check before you leave. Make sure that the brakes, engine, and most importantly, the transmission is working smoothly. Without your transmission, you won’t be able to drive, so a once-over is essential. It’s also important to check your tires and headlights, and that you have enough gas. When this is done, you’re good to go.

White Water Walk

Keeping with the water theme, the White Water Walk is an incredible destination for a trip out of Toronto. The walk is in the same area as the Niagara Falls but it is less well-known despite its obvious beauty. So, if you’re looking for a less tourist-dominated way to experience the Niagara region, then this is the perfect option. The White Water Walk has wooden platforms that you can view the great Niagara waters from and it stretches for about half a mile so you don’t need to be super fit to walk it. It also features a suspension bridge and tunnel, so you get really up close to the water.

Blue Mountain

The Blue Mountain Ski Resort is less than two hours away from the city of Toronto and is the perfect way to unwind and have some fun when you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. This trip is more suitable for people who have a thirst for adventure, or for tourists who want to experience the thrill of snow sports firsthand. It’s also ideal for families as there is zip-lining, mountain bike trails, wall climbing, a skating trail, snowshoeing, tubing, and an indoor aquatic centre with heated pools. There are also incredible beaches nearby, along with golf, a biking rail trail and village shopping, dining and nightlife.

Whether it’s watching the spectacular and mighty Niagara Falls, walking along their waterways, or enjoying everything Blue Mountain has to offer, Toronto offers plenty of opportunities to escape the city and get some fresh air.
