Fog Advisory issued for Toronto and most of southern Ontario

TORONTO, Nov. 2, 2022 – No one really needs to be told that Toronto and Southern Ontario are experiencing dense fog today, but Environment and Climate Change Canada has officially issued a fog warning for Wednesday into Thursday.

ECCC says “Near zero visibility in fog is expected or occurring. Fog is expected to continue into Thursday morning.”

And did all this Toronto fog come from this afternoon? Anthony Farrell, Chief Meteorologist for Global News says, it is rolling in off Lake Ontario. “On a sunny day, land heats up quicker than water. The air over land also warms and rises which can draw the cool damp and very dense lake air inland, but only in the lowest level of the atmosphere,” reads Farrell’s tweet Wednesdsay afternoon.

This must also hold true for the other Great Lakes regions, as the fog advisory is not just centred around Lake Ontario. It also areas like London, Sudbury, Windsor, Dunnville, Manitoulin and Killarney, to name a few.

At times during this period, visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
