Launched by Trees for Life, in partnership with Royal Canin, pet owners can now plant a tribute to their animal companions
Canada’s “goodest” boys and girls – the beloved pets bringing joy to Canadians from coast-to-coast are being honoured with a new green initiative: Trees for Pet Heroes. Starting today, Canadians can donate to have a tree planted in their pet’s honour, celebrating the special human-animal bond.
The initiative is led by Trees For Life, a leading Canadian non-profit community tree-planting organization, with support from Royal Canin, a global pet food brand within the division of Mars, Inc. It builds on a successful pilot project from last October, when the two organizations planted 97 trees at the Guelph Humane Society, creating shade, privacy, and an expanded canopy for dogs to enjoy while exercising.
That success has inspired a nationwide rollout, with trees to be planted in parks, at animal shelters, and other places pets live, woof, and play. When a donation is made, the donor can select a location and add their pet’s name to the corresponding Trees for Pet Heroes page across the country.
Community organizations, corporations and town councils with available parkland or greenspace can partner with Trees for Life to plant a Pet Hero forest in their community by contacting kate@treesforlife.ca.
“At Trees for Life, the trees we plant not only offer tremendous benefits for the environment, but they also honour the people and communities we plant in,” said Marina Dimitriadis, Executive Director of Trees for Life. “Pets benefit equally from having access to green spaces, and this new initiative will celebrate the vital relationship and the positive impact that animals have in our lives.”
“Royal Canin believes that a BETTER WORLD FOR PETS starts with a healthier environment for all,” said Rob Lunn, general manager, Royal Canin Canada. “We are proud to partner with Trees for Life to expand green spaces where pets and their families can thrive together to help create lasting, positive change in communities across Canada.”
Trees For Life plants trees in urban environments where Canadians live, work and play. Trees For Pet Heroes is an extension of Trees For Heroes initiative, which is a program that plants trees to recognize the contributions of extraordinary people to their communities – whether via military service, in health care, as first responders, as teachers and beyond.
Community planting events for Trees for Pet Heroes to be announced later this year. For more information or to donate, visit treesforlife.ca/donate.
