img

Hockey is the sport Canadians love more than any other, and one of the ways to get invested in the outcome of a game is to place a bet on it. While this is the case, getting started with placing bets is not the easiest endeavor, especially among people who have not interacted with an online betting website before.

This guide is here to show you all you need to do to go from a hockey betting pleb, to a hockey bettor that knows their way around a bookmaker, and which bets to make.

5 steps to bet on hockey

1. Find a betting site

2. Sign up with said betting site

3. Make a deposit into your newly created account

4. Find the hockey tab on the website and click on it

5. Choose your outcome and click the odds

6. Enter your stake and confirm your bet

The rest of this article is dedicated to showing you exactly what you need to do in order to follow the steps listed just above. Keep reading if you want to learn more!

Step 1 – Finding a betting site

Finding the right betting site as someone new to betting can feel a lot like a tall order. As a beginner, you’re not too sure where to look, what you may or may not like in a betting site, or what the measures of a good betting site are.

If this sounds like you, you’re in luck, because there are plenty of websites that do the hard yards for you, by listing the best betting sites, and providing insights into what their strengths and weaknesses are.

If you’re looking to bet on hockey, you can check out the lists available, and see which of them prioritizes this sport better than any other online bookmaker out there.

Step 2 – Sign up with the betting site that seems interesting

Once you’ve found a bookmaker that seems to be a good fit for what you’re looking to bet on (hockey in this case), the next step is to create a new account with them. The process is made

seamless by most of the sportsbooks available in Ontario, and takes up to a maximum of a minute to complete.

Once you’ve arrived at your chosen bookmakers’ landing page, you’ll need to click on a button that says something like “create an account”, “register” or “sign up”. Once you’ve clicked that button, a new window will pop up, wherein you will be required to add some personal information.

If this seems a little too much, don’t fret. The information you provide is kept absolutely safe, and is encrypted with sophisticated software, so it is safe from any internet malpractices. Once your information has been entered, you can click on a “create your account” button. Some bookmakers will require you to verify your account via email, or text message.

Step 3 – Make a deposit

The next step is to make a deposit, and this is usually a very simple process, as most betting sites available in Ontario offer up the likes of Interac, Visa/Mastercard, and a collection of e wallets. Since Interac is the most popular Canadian payment option, being able to load up your account with it is super convenient.

To make a deposit, you will need to be signed in to your newly created betting account. You’ll then need to click on a deposit button, which is typically located to the top right-hand corner of the screen if you’re on desktop or on mobile. Once that’s been done, you’ll need to choose the payment method you want to proceed with, and then enter the amount you would like to deposit.

The given bookmaker would then provide a set of instructions that are easy to follow, and once you’ve followed them, you’ll have money reflected in your betting account.

Step 4 – Find and click the betting site’s hockey tab

Since the betting sites are geared towards Canadian players, and hockey is the sport Canadians are most fond of, the hockey tab of a given website is usually very easy to find.

If you’re logged into your account, you could probably see the hockey tab from the homepage if you’re on desktop or mobile. If not, you’ll easily be able to find it by clicking on the menu button of the betting site, then by clicking on all sports, and navigating to it from there.

Most betting sites also have a built-in search feature, which you can click and then type in hockey.

Step 5 – Choose your outcome and click on the odds

Choosing your outcome can be as easy, or as difficult, as you want it to be. If you’re a newbie, we recommend starting off with money lines, as this betting option requires you to pick who you think will be the winner at the end of the game. Once you’re comfortable with those, you can move onto more complicated options such as totals, points spreads, and beyond.

Choosing outcomes can also be greatly influenced by reading the opinions of expert bettors, who post betting tips, and previews regularly. If you’re new to betting, and aren’t sure about which picks to make, betting tips can be extremely useful.

Once you’re sure on the outcome you want to bet on, you can click on the odds of the team that you think will win the game.

Step 6 – Enter your stake and confirm your bet

The final step in the process is a two pronged one, which involves setting your stake (the money you plan to wager) and clicking on a button that will officially place your bet. When it comes to setting your stake, ensure that the amount you set is less to the amount you have in your betting account. Another golden rule is to not bet more than you are willing to part with.

Once you’ve entered your stake, and you are happy with your decision, you can go ahead and click on the place bet button, and wait to see if your pick was the correct one!
