TORONTO, Friday 9 January 2026 — A special weather statement has been issued for the GTA by Environment and Climate Change Canada, warning of strong winds, starting early afternoon and until early evening Friday, January 9, 2026.
ECCC says that strong westerly winds are expected with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h.
Easing by early evening.
Residents are advised to secure loose objects and that local utility outages are possible.
Tonight is expected to be mainly cloudy with a 60 percent chance of showers early this evening. Wind west 40 km/h gusting to 80, diminishing to 20 late this evening, then becoming light after midnight. Low minus 1.
For Saturday, it will be Cloudy. Wind east 30 km/h gusting to 50. High plus 3. UV index 1 or low. And for Saturday night, we can expect some rain mixed with snow ending after midnight, then partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of flurries. Wind east 30 km/h gusting to 50, becoming southwest 40 gusting to 60 late in the evening. Low minus 3. Wind chill minus 11 overnight.
