Metrolinx recently collaborated with the Riverside BIA and the City of Toronto to create a mural on the new Queen Street rail bridge at Queen Street East and De Grassi Street.
This project enhances new infrastructure with vibrant artwork that reflects the local community. The new landmark mural was created by Indigenous artist, Que Rock, and will remain in place for the bridge’s life span.
Earlier this week, a launch event was held on September 21 for the unveiling of the mural, designed to be a visual land acknowledgement and celebration of the history of the Riverside area.

The new Queen Street rail bridge replaces the bridge previously at this location to support the Ontario Line subway and increased GO Transit services.
This is just one way Metrolinx is bringing artwork to local communities. Earlier this year, they announced a call to local artists to help transform and animate portions of construction hoarding at some Ontario Line sites downtown. They also worked with Neighbourhood Information Post to showcase artwork from local youth at the Moss Park construction site that was unveiled in June.
Metrolinx says that they focus of these projects is to engage local artists and collectives to transform construction areas and new infrastructure into vibrant art displays.
The Ontario Line is a brand-new subway line Metrolinx is delivering as part of the province’s transit expansion plan. Metolinx is building the transit commuters need and reducing congestion across the region. The Ontario line is expected to see nearly 400,000 daily boardings and will reduce major crowding at the existing Union and Bloor-Yonge subway stations by up to 14 and 22 per cent, respectively.
