Special Weather Statement issued for Toronto and southern Ontario

TORONTO, Oct. 12, 2022 – Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of strong winds for Toronto and southern Ontario over the next 12 -18 hours.

ECCC Canada’s trusted weather source says due to a cold front currently over Michigan and headed to southern Ontario, we can expect wind gusts of up to 90 km/h at times beginning this evening and ending overnight. High winds like this can damage soft shelters, tents, and awnings and cold cause power outages and fallen branches.

Wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h.

Timing:
Beginning this evening and ending overnight.

Discussion:
A cold front currently over Michigan will bring strong, gusty winds as it moves through southern Ontario this evening and overnight.

Impacts:
Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings at outdoor events.
Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
