FREE Toronto Dragon Festival Returns to Nathan Phillips Square This Weekend

Downtown Toronto is about to transform into a celebration of culture, tradition, and a little bit of the future. The seventh annual Toronto Dragon Festival (TDF) runs Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6 at Nathan Phillips Square, and admission is free for all ages.

A First for Toronto

This year’s headline addition is the Chaoshan Yingge Dance, a powerful piece of Chinese intangible cultural heritage making its Toronto debut — a high-energy folk tradition built around thunderous rhythm, warrior spirit, and dramatic choreography. It joins the festival’s signature high-pole lion dances and dragon dances, known for their gravity-defying acrobatics.

The festival’s multicultural lineup extends well beyond Chinese tradition, too, with performances celebrating Indigenous, South Asian, Caribbean, European, and global communities throughout the weekend.

Lights, Fashion, and Street Food

After dark, the festival’s Luminati Night Light Show and immersive Reflection Water Show take over the square, alongside a high-fashion runway featuring Canadian-made, traditional, and ethnic designs. Hungry festivalgoers can graze through Asian street food vendors and cultural booths offering crafts and stories from around the world.

New for 2026: An AI Innovation Showcase

For the first time, TDF is pairing centuries-old tradition with a look at where technology is headed. The new AI Innovation Showcase lets visitors get hands-on with AI-powered smart glasses, AI watches, robotics, robot dogs, and other next-generation lifestyle products.
