Your Toronto Zoo is Asking for Names for Their Two New Komodo Dragons

TORONTO, Nov. 7, 2025 — Your Toronto Zoo is thrilled to announce the arrival of their newest slithery residents, two four-year-old Komodo dragons! They are also asking the community to help select names for these giant lizards. One is female and one is male, so the zoo has provided three naming options for each.

“These cold-blooded newcomers have begun settling into their habitat in the Australasia Pavilion and we invite you to give them a warm Zoo welcome on your next visit. As the largest living lizard species on Earth, Komodo dragons are powerful, fascinating, and truly unforgettable to see in person,” reads the message from the Toronto Zoo.

To celebrate their arrival, they are inviting our community to help choose their names! From now until Thursday, November 20 at 11:59 pm, you can vote for your favourite names by clicking on this link. You will also learn the meaning of each name choice suggested below.

See below for your choices:

Komodo dragons are listed as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with fewer than 3,500 Komodo dragons remain in the world. They face serious threats from habitat loss, climate change, and declining prey populations across their native range in Indonesia. As part of our mission to fight extinction, your Toronto Zoo participates in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) for Komodo dragons, ensuring healthy, genetically diverse populations and supporting global conservation efforts.
