SARNIA, ONTARIO, April 5, 2022 – The Breast Cancer Society of Canada (BCSC) on March 30 announced its national fundraising campaign, Million Steps to Mother’s Day, powered by Cleo, which invites Canadians to lace-up and move to raise funds for life-saving breast cancer research.

Formally known as the ‘Mother’s Day Walk,’ Million Steps to Mother’s Day, powered by Cleo, encourages participants to move however and whenever they like from May 1-8 with an app that tracks their fundraising and movement. Whether it’s running a few errands, running a marathon, or running after the kids – every move counts and every dollar matters.

For the past 31 years, BCSC has funded ground-breaking breast cancer research across Canada, with a focus on Precision Oncology, also known as personalized medicine. Million Steps to Mother’s Day will support Canadian breast cancer researchers who are developing new diagnostic tools and personalized targeted treatments to improve the lives of breast cancer patients.

“Million Steps to Mother’s Day, powered by Cleo, is a great way for Canadians to support breast cancer research and stay healthy at the same time. We invite people across Canada to join us now through Mother’s Day by raising funds and moving to end breast cancer”, said Kimberly Carson, CEO of the Breast Cancer Society of Canada. “Since the World Health Organization declared breast cancer as the most diagnosed cancer worldwide, we are committed to changing the outcomes for breast cancer patients through research.”

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

  1. Register at mothersdaywalk.ca as an individual or team for a $20 fee (tax receipt will be issued).
  2. Once registered, a link to download the app will be sent to participants with instructions.
  3. The app will track participants’ movements from May 1-8, though participants are encouraged to start fundraising now.
  4. Participants can follow the Breast Cancer Society of Canada on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn and use #mothersdaywalk to share their movements.

BCSC is delighted to have Cleo as the presenting sponsor of the Million Steps to Mother’s Day fundraiser. “We are so proud of our 18-year partnership with the Breast Cancer Society of Canada and this year is no different with their continued creativity around such a legacy event.” stated Lisa Hyrciuk, President of Cleo.

Other 2022 Million Steps to Mother’s Day sponsors include: Callia, The Optimity Health Rewards App, Sum Good, Windspeaker and The Weather Network.
