Carlton Papyrus card stores closing – All 76 Canadian Carlton Papyrus card stores will be closing over the next four to six weeks.

The online Carlton Card and Papyrus stores will still remain open and the closures will not affect the publishing of Carlton Cards or their sale in other stores.

Founded in 1950, their products will still be available at any of their 6,000 retailers, including Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaws, Sobeys, London Drugs, Indigo and Jean Coutu.

Dominique Schurman, CEO of Schurman Retail Group, said in a statement that “Despite our Herculean efforts to realign our Papyrus and American Greetings stores to fit today’s shopping environment, Schurman Retail Group had to make the difficult decision to close all 254 of our stores in North America.”

Going out of business sales are popping up across the country now and all sales will be final online and in the brick and mortar shops.

“We want to thank all of our loyal customers for their patronage of our proud family business started by my parents 70 years ago,” said Schurman in the statement

Another 178 locations will close in the U.S., bringing the total to 254 stores employing approximately 1,400 people.
