Canadian figure skating royalty, Kurt Browning and Elvis Stojko will headline a unique figure skating showcase in downtown Toronto, supporting the all-new Ridley College high-performance figure skating programme — where the former Canadian Olympians and World Champions will be on the roster of coaches.
Ridley College Figure Skating Coaching Showcase
Free to attend, the Ridley College Figure Skating Coaching Showcase will take place at Nathan Phillips Square Sunday, March 1st, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The special event will feature the programme’s all-star coaching faculty doing a demonstration with skaters on the ice, sandwiched by a free skate before and after for all who attend. Joining Browning and Stojko will be Head Coach Marika Steward, a professional skater with Disney on Ice, and professional figure skater Gladys Orozco, a former Mexican national champion.

The Ridley College high-performance figure skating programme is sanctioned by Skate Canada and is an official Skating School Partner of Skate Ontario. Aligned with Skate Canada’s Podium Pathway, it offers student-athletes 12 to 18 hours of weekly training, combining on-ice instruction with off-ice development. Skaters will benefit from access to Ridley’s high-performance facilities, including a fitness centre, yoga studio, spin room, dance studio and athletic therapy services.
“Ridley College is re-inventing elite figure skating training in Canada,” says Head Coach Marika Steward, who has won a Canadian Junior Figure Skating Championship silver medal and brings experience skating and coaching from Austria, Japan and Canada to the programme. “We have built a holistic, team‑based, internationally inspired programme where young skaters can pursue excellence without sacrificing education, wellbeing or, perhaps most importantly, their childhood.”
Other Coaching Greats

Other coaches in the program include former World Junior Champion Nam Nguyen, former US National Champion Alissa Czisny and former US National Champion and Olympian Gracie Gold.
This high-performance programme reflects Ridley’s commitment to excellence in sport and education, offering skaters a unique opportunity to pursue competitive training while living on campus and receiving a world-class academic experience. Ridley’s high-performance and university-prep athletics programmes ensure that student-athletes have the resources, support and exposure necessary to pursue their educational and athletic aspirations.
“Competitive figure skaters often must choose between their sport and academics, but Ridley offers a unique chance to excel in both,” says Jenna Cameron, Associate Director of Admissions at Ridley College. “Ridley supports skaters’ physical and mental wellbeing, enabling individual competition within a team environment while providing a world-class education.”
