At 3:30 pm Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement saying that most of the GTA and southern Ontario are under a frost advisory for the next few nights.

The Special Weather Statement includes the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area as well as southwestern and eastern Ontario. At the time of issue downtown Toronto was not included within the frost advisory.

The Frost Advisory is in effect for tonight and frost is possible again for several more nights through mid week, the report reads.

Environment Canada also says the advisory is for “a large swath of southern Ontario,” however some “urban areas and areas near the lake shore may be mild enough to limit frost.”

Canada’s trusted weather source also says steadier winds Monday night may limit frost development, but temperatures will still be near or below freezing regardless.

“Some plants may be damaged or even destroyed by frost,” warns Environmnent Canada.

Resident gardeners are advised to take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
