Frost Advisory issued for Toronto

TORONTO. April 26, 2023 – Heads up Toronto gardeners, we have some disconcerting news. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Frost Advisory for the area tonight into Thursday morning. Those living right near the lake might scrape through without frost damage but the further you get from Toronto’s lake shore, the greater chance of frost.

That’s right some marginal plants may become damaged by frost tonight. So it goes without saying you should move them indoors if you can.

ECCC says, “Frost is expected tonight into early Thursday morning with temperatures falling to near or just below the freezing mark.

Some areas near the lakes may remain above freezing, however. Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas.”

The Windsor – Chatham area is also under the same frost advisory as City of Toronto.

Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
