December 11, 2019 – To mark the occasion of Kawhi Leonard’s first game in Toronto since leading the Raptors to their first NBA title and championship parade, a billboard has been erected in his honour.

His L.A. Clippers are in town and before the game tips off he will receive his NBA Championship ring. The billboard sponsored by New Balance dominates Yonge – Dundas Square.

Meanwhile, at BMO a digital billboard posted by MLSE in Kawhi’s honour says, “Board Man Gets His Ring” while at Scotiabank Arena another giant digital billboard says “Fun Guy in Town.”

Toronto Raptors posts on Twitter about Kawhi’s return to Scotiabank Arena.

There is so much excitement surrounding his return and it is expected that although many fans were bitter that he didn’t re-sign with the Raptors, he will receive an extremely warm reception at the game.

A media circus surrounded Kawhi during the warmup earlier today with everyone clamouring to get a photo of him on the court where he scored that incredible highlight reel 3-pointer against the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

There will be a great deal of emotion and nostalgia and that already started yesterday when the Toronto Raptors posted a classy tribute video on Twitter yesterday.

He was an integral part of helping Toronto become champions and he will be honoured that way tonight.

Toronto Raptors Superfan, Nav Bhatia of Mississauga and honour of Hyundai of Mississauga as well as several other GTA dealerships, thanks Kawhi on Twitter. Bhatia has been a season ticket holder since the Raptors’ inaugural season.

For his former coach Nick Nurse it will be business as usual. “We will give him his ring and shake his hand…but after that we have to focus on beating a real good basketball team,” said coach Nurse.

Kawhi told CP24 he is expected to be booed because he is playing against his former squad and in their house.

To see Kawhi receive his Championship ring fans are asked to be in their seats by 6:45pm.
