HAPPY NEW YEAR! Winter Weather Advisory – Snow is on its way to Southern Ontario

2022 will begin with a blast of winter as a Winter Weather Travel Advisory is in effect for all of Southern Ontario tonight and into Sunday.

Environment Canada says snow is expected to develop in the GTA late this afternoon or this evening. It will then move all the way across southern Ontario. The snow will continue into Sunday with peak snowfall rates of 1 to 2 cm per hour possible.

The expected total snowfall accumulation is 5 to 10 cm are possible by the time the snow comes to an end Sunday afternoon.

Travel may be hazardous tonight and Sunday morning as untreated surfaces are expected to become snow covered and icy.

This snow is the result of a low pressure system passing south of Lake Erie tonight. There is still uncertainty regarding the track of this system. Should the low pressure system track farther south, the resulting snowfall amounts would be less.

Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
