Here Comes The Rain: Special weather statement issued for Toronto and the GTA

TORONTO, ON., March 25, 2021 — Batten down the hatches, Toronto! At 3:20 PM on Thursday, Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for rain heavy at times Thursday night and Friday for Toronto and the GTA.

Canada’s trusted weather source says the GTA can expect “Periods of rain, heavy at times, with isolated thunderstorms are expected tonight into Friday. Rainfall amounts will generally be in the 20 to 40 mm range, with locally up to 50 mm possible in thunderstorms in some locales.”

Some areas could see as much as a month’s worth of rain in just 24 hours.

Environment Canada says the rain is expected to taper off Friday by noon.

Strong northwest winds gusting to 70 or 80 km/h are expected in many areas Friday afternoon.
