TORONTO, July 2, 2023 – As the free agency frenzy continues into today, the Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that the hockey club has signed forward Tyler Bertuzzi to a one-year contract worth $5.5 million.

Bertuzzi, 28, skated in 29 games with the Detroit Red Wings last season before becoming a trade deadline acquisition by the Boston Bruins who were expecting to go deep in the playoffs . With his short time with the Bruins, Bertuzzi recorded 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 21 regular season games and was super productivte in the first round of the playoffs against the Panthers with 10 points (five goals, five assists) in seven playoff games.

The Sudbury, Ontario native has recorded 218 points (92 goals, 126 points) in 326 regular season games split between Detroit and Boston.

Bertuzzi was originally selected by Detroit in the second round (58th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.  And in case you are wondering, he is the nephew of former NHLer Todd Bertuzzi. And following in his uncle’s skating strides, Tyler is best known for his toughness on the ice and his ability to score goals. If one round is any indication, Bertuzzi also steps it up in the playoffs.
