Although, the morning commute was not as messy as expected and this morning’s weather travel advisory has dissipated for regions west of Toronto, a new winter weather advisory has been issued for tonight by Environment Canada. Lake effect snow is expected to dump 5 to 10 cm of snow in the the regions of Halton, Peel and Hamilton.

Weather advisory in effect for:

  • Burlington – Oakville
  • Halton Hills – Milton
  • Mississauga – Brampton
  • Hamilton

Environment Canada says, “The band of snow that was affecting the region this morning has dissipated.

“Another narrow band of lake effect snow is expected to develop over western Lake Ontario this evening. Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible by the time snow tapers off overnight with snowfall rates of several centimeters per hour likely.

Under the lake effect bands heavy bursts of snow and blowing snow can significantly reduce visibilities.”

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for quickly changing driving conditions. Consider postponing non essential travel as snow covered and icy roads are expected.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
