Paint the Town Red in Port Credit on Canada Day 2024 features a parade, live music and fireworks

The 21st Annual Paint The Town Red Canada Day Celebration (COVID notwithstanding), is taking place just west of Toronto in the bustling waterfront village of Port Credit, Mississauga. One of the main attractions of this FREE Canada Day celebration is the Hazel McCallion Canada Day Parade, which gets rolling on Monday, July 1 at 11 am. Other exciting activities at this year’s Paint The Town Red, include live music in Memorial Park starting at 1:30 pm, an aerial circus, kids activities, art installations, vendors, and a beer garden. Once again, the PTTR spectacular Canada Day fireworks display will round off the fun-filled day starting at 10:30 pm!

Here is a detailed look at what’s happening at Paint the Town Red 2024!

Hazel McCallion Canada Day Parade

Renamed last year in honour of the late former Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallion for her “unwavering support” of the festival, the parade begins at 11 a.m. sharp and will make its way along Lakeshore Road East from Stavebank towards Seneca Avenue (Lakeshore will be closed between 10 am and 2 pm to regular traffic during the parade). Over 50 entries are expected to participate in this festive event celebrating Canada. Expect to see a numerous marching bands, community groups, organizations and some very exciting new entries this year.

“The people who come to celebrate Canada are often surprised by the scope and popularity of this event,” says vice-chair and event coordinator Diane Goldsmith.

“It’s a huge community celebration. It’s a sea of red and white as onlookers wave flags as proud Canadians, young and old!”

Lots to see and do in Memorial Park this Canada Day

As you enter Port Credit Memorial Park (40 Lakeshore Rd E), you can have a photo experience with our Canadian photo booth. Celebrating everything Port Credit and Mississauga’s 50th Anniversary, local artist, Joanne Feely DeGraaf has created an interactive photo experience for your Canada Day Memories.

Steps away will be workshops by Cirque It Work It Aerial Circus School as the young students demonstrate their aerial acrobatic talents.

Edenshaw Kids Show

Family events at Paint the Town Red include the Edenshaw Kids Show from Noon to 5 pm has loads of crafts, activities, face painting, princesses and super heros to keep the kids charged up.

Also in Memorial Park you will find the vendors, licensed beer gardens and VIP area.

Live Music

Always a major draw, there will be live music from 1:30 pm until 10:30 pm on the Memorial Park mainstage will include an all Canadian lineup of tribute acts in addition to emerging artists that will play 20-minute sets between the Main Stage acts!

  • 9:15 pm: Canada Day All-Stars with Tom Barlow

Fireworks

Ending off the Canada Day celebration in style is the stunning fireworks show, happening at 10:30 p.m. Bring a blanket to sit on and watch the sky light up with all sorts of vibrant colours.

All residents and visitors are invited to join the celebration – admission is free and there’s something for people of all ages to enjoy, so you can bring the whole family out.
