The much-anticipated new feature film Hunky Jesus is having its Canadian premiere at this year’s 36th annual edition of the iconic Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival. The film will be screened on 24 May 2026 at the TIFF Lightbox Cinema 2.
Hunky Jesus captures the legendary Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a global order of queer and trans nuns who have spent more than four decades blending drag, performance activism and their irreverent wit to fight for social justice and equality. The film follows San Francisco’s legendary Easter celebration which has been running since 1995, hosted by the World’s Most Photographed Nun™, Sister Roma, and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum, Honey Mahogany.

Hunky Jesus showcases how the Sisters subvert expectations and confront oppressive systems within religious and conservative circles – which the film unpacks in great detail.
The historic queer drag campaigners, the Sisters, might have started in San Francisco – but did you know there’s a massive order of Sisters based across Canada?
A whole host of Canadian Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be in Toronto for the premiere, uniting Sisters from the Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, and Montreal orders. Canada has a long and proud history of Sisters and Toronto was the second convent after the original in San Francisco. They are proudly multi-cultural, gender inclusive, and multi-lingual – reflecting the best of Canada – and an important part of this Global order of people fighting to create unity and advocacy at a time where communities and society are subject to division and prejudice.
