TORONTO, June 13, 2024 – Torontonians are lining up to get their first taste of Shake Shack’s legendary crinkle cut fries, burgers and shakes, as the popular US burger chain officially opens the doors to its first Canadian location. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, at the corner of Yonge and Dundas today, the popular American fast food restaurant is unveiling more Canadian exclusive menu items and unique partnerships with Ontario-based businesses.

The 5,500-square-foot restaurant which had a soft opening last week, on the northeast corner of Yonge and Dundas will continue the transformation of this neighbourhood by providing locals and visitors alike with a convenient and delicious dining option.

“”We’re excited to serve up our signature Shack classics along with some Canadian exclusives that we’ve developed with our local culinary partners to be enjoyed amongst Toronto’s dynamic cityscape,” said Billy Richmond, Business Director at Shake Shack Canada.

Local partners

Shake Shack collaborated with a variety of local partners to embrace the flavours and ingredients that Canadians know and love. These ingredients are incorporated into several dessert items using frozen custard. Shake Shack’s premium ice cream made with real cane sugar and cage-free eggs.

Urban Art Meets Community Support

When Shake Shack started as a hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park, their mission was simple: raise funds for a public art project. Over the years, Shake Shack has prioritized high-quality food at a great value, warm hospitality and its commitment to Stand For Something Good®.

The Yonge and Dundas location upholds these values, featuring a thoughtfully designed space that reflects the city’s spirit while staying true to Shake Shack’s distinct aesthetic. Shake Shack has partnered with local Toronto artist, Briony Douglas, who has created an art installation to launch the brand in Toronto and bring a burst of creativity to the heart of the city. The art installation can be viewed starting today at the Yonge and Dundas location.

“I’ve been a big fan of the Shake Shack brand for a long time and I’m thrilled to be working on this project to help give back to those in need,” said Briony Douglas. “It’s an exciting opportunity to blend my artistic vision with the infectious energy and community that both Shake Shack and the city of Toronto embodies.”

Regional beer and wine!

The menu also features a variety of regional beer and wine selections, created specifically for Shake Shack, including ShackMeister Ale, brewed by Bellwoods Brewery on Ossington and Shack Red and Shack White vinted by Rosewood Winery in Niagara.

Shake Shack has also partnered with Wufers on special treats for their four-legged friends including; Bag O’ Bones, Shack dog biscuits, and Pooch-inis, vanilla frozen custard topped with Shack dog biscuits.

Partnerships with Power: Stand for Something Good

With a shared passion for high-quality ingredients, Shake Shack has partnered with Canadian farmers for their custom Angus beef burgers and whole white meat chicken, both using 100% Canadian meat, never frozen and raised without antibiotics.

Shake Shack is also proud to partner with several organizations as part of their mission to Stand For Something Good.

  • A portion of overall sales will go towards Second Harvest, a global thought leader on perishable food redistribution and Canada’s largest food rescue charity.
  • 5% of Shack2O water bottle sales will benefit Water First, Canada’s leading charity working in partnership with Indigenous communities to address local water challenges through education and training.
  • 5% of More S’mores Concrete sales will be donated to Campfire Circle, a charity that brings healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families.
