Special Weather Statement – High winds & heavy precipitation headed to GTA

TORONTO, April 2, 2024 – Batten down the hatches, Toronto, as an early spring storm expected to bring strong winds and rain tonight and Wednesday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

There is also a potential for some wet snow late Wednesday into Thursday, but it is not expected to hang around.

Rain and high wind

Precipitation in the form of 25 to 50 mm of rain is expected Tuesday night along with east winds gusting up to 80 km/h. Timing:

The rain, heavy at times and high wind come courtesy of a Colorado low this evening and continue into Wednesday.

Snow?

Rain should transition to snow late Wednesday as temperatures cool, although significant amounts are not expected.

The “very strong” easterly winds with gusts possibly exceeding 80 km/h in some GTA locales are likely tonight. The winds will ease on Wednesday.
