TORONTO Jan. 11, 2023 – It’s not the sort of weather warning Torontonians have come to expect this time of year, but a special weather statement has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) warning of significant rainfall expected in southern Ontario on Thursday night. ECCC says this rain may change to snow come Friday morning with just a few centimetres of the white stuff expected by Friday evening.

Here are the details about the special weather statement for Toronto and southern Ontario

ECCC says Toronto can expect “rain heavy at times with amounts of 15 to 30 mm” and warns of “localized ponding in poorly drained areas.”

The rain is expected to be heavy at times beginning late Thursday afternoon then changing to snow by Friday morning.

Southern Ontarians are asked to note that the partially frozen ground may have a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. A few centimetres of snow can be expected by Friday evening.

ECCC says, there is a great deal of uncertainty regarding the track of the Colorado low responsible for this rainfall. Should the track of this low change, rainfall amounts could also change.
