UP Express returns to 30-minute regular service

Metolinx announced today that starting Aug. 23, UP Express service is increasing it service to provide riders with consistent, 30-minute travel times throughout the day.

UP Express service had been previously reduced due to low ridership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With vaccinating rates increasing, more riders are returning to UP Express to travel between Toronto Pearson Airport and Union Station. To provide more flexible travel options, Metrolinx is bringing back more UP Express service,” says Metrolinx.

The increased UP Express service gives GTA transit customers more options, seven days a week, in both directions.

Metrolinx says there will also be changes to existing schedules to accommodate upcoming track work at Toronto Pearson Station.

Here’s what you need to know about the reintroduction of 30-minute UP Express service between Union Station and Toronto Pearson Airport:

UP Express Weekday service:

  • The first eastbound trip from Toronto Pearson to Union Station will depart at 5:40 a.m. and trains will run every 30 minutes until the last trip at 10:40 p.m.
  • Two late-evening trips in both directions are being added: westbound from Union Station at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.; and eastbound from Pearson Station at 9:10 p.m. and 10:10 p.m.

UP Express Weekend service:

Metrolinx advises transit riders to remember to continue to wear a face covering while travelling on UP Express – and GO Transit too – even if you’re fully vaccinated.
