Winter weather travel advisory issued for GTA
TORONTO, December 20, 2024 – A winter weather travel advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada is in effect for tonight into Friday morning. ECCC says we can expect between 5 and 10 cm of snow through the night, which is expected to make the morning commute rather messy.
A band of lake effect snow off Lake Ontario will develop overnight. This band, combined with an incoming low pressure system, is expected to produce locally enhanced snowfall amounts. Snow is expected to taper to light flurries late Friday morning or early Friday afternoon as this band shifts to the south.
Hazards: Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 5 to 10 cm. Poor visibility at times in heavy snow. Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.
Timing: Overnight into Friday morning.
Slow down
Drivers are advised to slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
