Winter Weather Travel Advisory issued for GTHA and east Ontario

With a swath of snow expected to move through the region from west to east this evening and continue into tonight, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a Winter weather travel advisory for this evening and overnight.

ECCC says total snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 cm can be expected by the time the snow tapers off to flurries followed by light freezing drizzle overnight.

For those who must travel and head out on the roads tonight, keep in mind that snowfall rates are expected to be at their highest this evening and may cause impacts to the evening commute.

The areas of the province affected by the winter weather travel advisory include:

Toronto, Peel, Halton, Halton Hills, Hamilton, Waterloo-Wellington, York, Durham, Belleville-Quinte-Northumberland, and Kingston-Prince Edward.

Of course, accumulating snow on untreated roadways may impact travel and motorists are advised to exercise caution.

Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Moving into Friday (Christmas Eve) as temperatures begin to climb just above zero, rain and drizzle is expected in the evening and through the night
