TORONTO, ON., May 6, 2020 — Today the LCBO announced that a gradual expansion of the current reduced hours that were put in place in late March in response to COVID-19.

Beginning Thursday, May 14, over 360 stores will operate from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturdays.

Other locations will continue to operate on the reduced schedule of 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturdays.

The list of store locations that will operate under extended hours is yet to be released but will be available on their website store locator ahead of May 14.

Although customers will be happy with the added convenience of longer hours OPSEU (Ontario Public Service Employees Union) President Warren “Smokey” Thomas accused the LCBO of putting profit ahead of staff safety by expanding hours just before the Victoria Day weekend.

“It’s absolutely appalling that Soleas and his cronies refuse to give hazard pay to their front-line workers but have no qualms about expanding the number of hours they’re potentially exposed to COVID-19,” said Thomas. “This is corrupt leadership at its finest – prioritizing your own bottom line above all else.”

Also the OPSEU says the LCBO has seen increased sales of 31% during the pandemic.

Most stores will be open from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. The store locator feature on lcbo.com will be updated as of May 14 and customers are encouraged to check their local stores hours, as they may vary.

Beginning Thursday, May 14, over 360 stores will operate from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturdays.

The LCBO says that the expansion of store hours will continue to roll out in stages across the province through to the first week of June.

All LCBO stores will remain closed on Mondays until further notice.

Expanding their store hours follows previous action taken to elevate store cleaning and sanitization protocols, introduce numerous physical distancing supports, and increased prevention awareness amongst employees.

Customers shopping at the LCBO are reminded to follow all physical distancing guidance in-line and in-store, shop alone and plan ahead, and limit interactions by paying with debit or credit and packing their own reusable bags, and extending kindness and patience to staff and fellow shoppers. For employee protection, the LCBO encourages customers to wear non-medical masks or face coverings and continues to require that customers make alternate shopping arrangements if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

LCBO continues to offer additional shopping options, including ship to store and Same-Day Pickup, which today is offered in over 60 stores and which includes separate lines for pick-up. For home delivery, customers will have to follow pick up directions provided by Canada Post.

Customers wishing to action returns should hold on to product and receipts as all eligible returns will be honoured at a future date.

LCBO Convenience Outlets authorized to sell beverage alcohol are privately-owned and business hours may vary.
