TORONTO, March 8, 2024 – A Special Weather Statement has been issued for the GTA by Environment and Climate Change Canada. ECCC warns of significant rainfall headed our way late today through Saturday. The rain is then expected to taper to flurries late Saturday – early Sunday as the temperature drops.

How much rain is coming?

Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm with higher amounts are possible, according to ECCC, Canada’s most trusted weather source.

When will it start raining?

The rain is expected to begin falling late Friday in the GTA and this afternoon over southwestern Ontario before moving across southern Ontario through Saturday.

Why so much rain?

At this point, there is still uncertainty regarding rainfall amounts. A low pressure system will bring widespread rain across southern Ontario this weekend, according to ECCC. Periods of rain will begin over southwestern Ontario late this afternoon and progress eastward overnight.

Rainfall warning ongoing

Rainfall warnings may be issued for some regions as the event approaches. The rain is expected to taper to flurries Saturday night as colder air moves into the region.
