TORONTO, March 28, 2024 – Toronto’s own Amanda Marshall, the celebrated Diamond-selling Canadian artist, adds an illustrious accolade to her remarkable career with a 2024 JUNO Award win for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for her latest album, Heavy Lifting. The win is Marshall’s first JUNO Award and marks a triumphant return to the spotlight, following the release of Heavy Lifting, Marshall’s first full-length studio album in over 20 years in 2023. Additionally, Marshall’s 2023 national tour in support of Heavy Lifting was met with high acclaim and boasted multiple sold-out dates, including two unforgettable performances at Massey Hall.

On the JUNO win, Amanda Marshall says, “What a delightful surprise! This amazing roller coaster just keeps getting better. I’m profoundly grateful to do a job I love, with people I love, for people who love us. I often say that I see records as business and stage as soul, but to have Heavy Lifting recognized in this way is wonderful. Thank you!”

As Marshall celebrates the achievement of the JUNO Award win, she also gears up for an exciting summer ahead with a lineup of tour dates sure to thrill fans. The stops include a headlining show at Toronto’s premier outdoor venue, Budweiser Stage on July 12, featuring special guests Colin James and AHI.

“Summertime shows at Ontario Place are a rite of passage”

“I am thrilled to be returning to the Budweiser Stage on July 12th” says Amanda Marshall. “Summertime shows at Ontario Place are a rite of passage, and we can’t wait to bring the heat to one of our favourite stages. See you this summer, Toronto!”

From her early beginnings in the music industry to her meteoric rise to fame, Marshall’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Throughout her career, Marshall has earned an impressive array of accolades including 14 JUNO Award nominations and her self-titled debut album achieved Diamond-selling status and subsequent releases reaching multi-Platinum status across the globe.

Worldwide, her self-titled album has racked up sales of over six million units since 1995 in the wake of seven Top 10 singles including “Let It Rain,” “Dark Horse” and “Birmingham.” It launched the Toronto-born Marshall onto the international stage, and she has since solidified her status as one of Canada’s most beloved musical icons.

Marshall’s latest album Heavy Lifting showcases her unparalleled talent, versatility, insightful songwriting, and soulful vocals. The album explores a diverse range of themes, from blistering takes on heartbreak in tracks like “I Hope She Cheats” to thought-provoking commentary on consumerism and religion in “God Forbid.” With each song, her emotive vocals and poignant lyrics resonate deeply with listeners, offering a compelling glimpse into her musical evolution.

Recorded entirely in Toronto, each track on the album was meticulously produced by Marshall alongside Robert Misener. This body of work stands as a testament to Marshall’s artistic autonomy, representing a milestone in her career as she took the helm of production for the first time, and making the JUNO win for this collection of songs even more poignant.
