In its inaugural year, Ontario’s legalised single-game sports betting yielded significant economic advantages. A report by iGaming Ontario, backed by Deloitte, highlighted gaming revenues of $1.48 billion, directly contributing $1.58 billion to the province’s GDP. Every dollar from iGaming operations bolstered about $1.14 billion of Ontario’s GDP. The endeavour also enriched federal, provincial, and municipal coffers by $238 million, $469 million, and $54 million, respectively. Furthermore, the industry created 12,000 jobs, expected to nearly double by year five.

The legalisation of sports betting in Ontario has had a notable impact on job creation. Based on the report from iGaming Ontario, in just its first year of operation, the industry has supported 12,207 jobs. The quality of these positions is also evident, with employees earning an average salary of $103,000 annually. Moreover, the industry’s growth potential is apparent, as projections indicate that job numbers will nearly double, reaching 22,132 by the fifth year of operation.
