It has only been a few days since last weekend’s high winds and heavy rainfall descended upon southern Ontario, but today Environment Canada has issued another Special Weather Statement for Toronto and most areas of southern Ontario including the entire GTA.

That’s right, make sure your garbage and recycle bins are weighted down as Canada’s trusted weather source warns of Strong winds beginning this morning and into the evening.

Strong southwesterly winds are expected to be gusting between 70 and 90 km/h.

A ‘Gale Warning‘ is also in effect for Lake Ontario today with Wind southwest 20 knots increasing to southwest 30 early this morning and to southwest 35 this afternoon. High winds are expected to create Waves from 1.5 metres building to 2 to 3 this morning then subsiding to 1.5 Friday morning. Waves subsiding to 1 m Friday evening.

As we all learned from last weekend, with strong winds come downed trees and breaking branches that could adversely affect power lines and cause power outages.

“A Colorado Low moving through Ontario today will bring strong winds throughout most of northeastern and southern Ontario,” reads the Environment Canada report.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
