Cabbagetown hosts annual Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11th
TORONTO, November 4, 2024 – The Cabbagetown BIA is hosting its annual Cabbagetown Remembrance Day Ceremony from 10:15am to 11:15am on Monday, November 11 at the corner of Carlton Street and Parliament Street. The ceremony will remember and honour those who have served, and continue to serve, Canada during times of war and to maintain peace.
Paying tribute to Canadian veterans, the open community gathering will observe Remembrance Day with a heartfelt ceremony featuring a trumpet performance as well as readings by elected officials, local business owners and community members.
A moment of silence will be observed at 11am, providing attendees with the opportunity to reflect on the significance of Remembrance Day and to remember those who have given their lives and livelihoods in service to Canada and peace around the world.
“The Cabbagetown Remembrance Day Ceremony is a testament to the strong sense of community that defines Cabbagetown. Our small business community is proud to stand alongside our neighbors in honouring this important day, reflecting our commitment to recognize Cabbagetown’s past and future,” said Matthew Mohan, Executive Director, The Cabbagetown BIA.
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to share stories over complimentary light refreshments.
Gilles Huot of the Cabbagetown Preservation Association will also offer any interested attendees a guided tour of military graves at the Toronto Necropolis, one of the city’s oldest and most historic cemeteries, located at 200 Winchester St.
This ceremony would not be possible without the support of local small business sponsors Zero Cocktail Bar & Bottle Shop, Home Hardware, Daniel et Daniel Catering & Events, The Epicure Shop, Dixon Hall Employment and Settlement Services, Stout Irish Pub, Butter Chicken Factory, Homelife Realty One Ltd., Dentistry on Parliament, St. Jamestown Steak & Chops, Johnny G’s Cafe, and 99 Frames.
