Montreal company Cirque du Soleil has filed for creditor protection due to the closing of the company since COVID-19 in the middle of March.

“Five to six companies are interested in buying Cirque du Soleil,” said CEO Daniel Lamarre. A new owner should be announced early this Fall in September 2020.

Since early March Cirque du Soleil has been forced to shut down all of its 44 shows around the globe. The company will lay off almost all 4,700 staff.

Last month the Quebec government just loaned the company $200 million to help restructure.

Guy Laliberte has recently said that he would be interested in buying back Cirque du Soleil and would like to keep its head offices in Montreal.
