City of Toronto launches spring recreation program listings – Registration opens next month

TORONTO, Feb. 13, 2023 – The City of Toronto has just announced its spring recreation program listings are now available online to help Toronto residents prepare for registration dates next month.

Registration for City spring recreation programs opens on Wednesday, March 8 and Friday, March 10, for programs that begin on April 1 and run until the end of June. Residents can visit the City’s Spring Recreation webpage to learn more about registration dates in their area and to find program and registration information.

Approximately 10,000 registered courses with close to 102,000 spaces will be offered, including arts, fitness and wellness, general interest, sports and swimming. Programs include sewing, Caribbean dance, Tae Kwon Do, Zumba and more. The City is Toronto’s largest provider of recreation programs for people of all ages, skill levels and interests.

Registration for Toronto’s spring recreation programs starts at 7 a.m. on the following dates:

• March 8 – Etobicoke York (including York South-Weston), Toronto and East York
• March 10 – North York and Scarborough

Spaces are still available at select locations for in-person and virtual March Break CampTO and Summer CampTO. Please visit the City’s CampTO webpage.

The quickest and easiest way to register for recreation programs is online. Registration by phone will also be available at 416-396-7378, from 7 a.m. on registration dates. For in-person registration support, five community centre locations will be open on the following dates from 7 a.m. to noon:

• Wednesday, March 8
  • Driftwood Community Recreation Centre, 4401 Jane St.
  • Masaryk-Cowan Community Recreation Centre, 220 Cowan Ave.
  • Wellesley Community Centre, 495 Sherbourne St.
• Friday, March 10
  • Centennial Recreation Centre, 1967 Ellesmere Rd.
  • Dennis R. Timbrell Resource Centre, 29 St. Denis Dr.

Residents who require help preparing for registration can call 416-396-7378, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The call centre will be open for extended hours on Tuesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 9, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The call centre will also be open for extended hours on registration days (March 8 and 10) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The City’s recreation programs are popular, and many have waiting lists. If registrants are unable to attend their program, they are asked to contact their local community centre or call the customer service line at 416-396-7378 to cancel their registration so that a spot can be offered to someone else.

Welcome Policy yearly credit

The Welcome Policy credit can be used to register for City recreation programs, including CampTO. Those receiving social assistance (Ontario Works) and living in Toronto are pre-approved to receive this credit and should speak to their caseworker or apply online. Toronto residents with a before-tax total family income below the Low income cut-off (LICO) threshold may also apply for the Welcome Policy by visiting the City’s Welcome Policy webpage.

Discounts for older adults

Participants 60 years old and older receive a 50 per cent discount on the regular price of adult recreation programs, excluding private, semi-private and small group lessons. Recreation jobs

The City says it ontinues to hire for all recreation positions, including camp counsellor/playground leader, lifeguards, specialty camp instructors and special needs program staff.
